You play a crucial role in preventing others from logging on to your account.
Choose your password wisely
Never use easy-to-guess passwords, such as your date of birth, pet’s name, or social security number. First Internet Bank allows you to set a password that is 4-16 characters long. The password is case sensitive and may contain any combination of letters, numbers, or special characters. We recommend that you select a password that is at least 8 characters in length and consists of at least one uppercase letter, at least one lowercase letter, at least one number, and at least one special character.
Never reveal your password to another person. You should periodically change your password.
Secure your computer
There are simple steps even the “nontechnical” among us can take to keep our home computers safe. Keep your operating system and browser up to date. Apply patches soon after they are made available. Run anti-virus software and update the virus definitions regularly. New viruses are announced nearly every day! We also recommend that you run a personal firewall if you have an “always on” high speed Internet connection.
Spyware can be extremely harmful to your computer and your personal information! You might have a spyware problem if you notice a sudden increase in pop-up ads, if your home page has changed without your knowledge, if you see unexpected toolbars or icons on the screen, and even if your computer is responding much more slowly than it has in the past. While First Internet Bank does not recommend or endorse any specific product, there are a number of programs available free to consumers to help identify and remove spyware from your computer.
Use only trusted computers
First Internet Bank does not recommend you use a public PC to bank online. It is impossible for us, or for you, to know what security exists on a PC at a library, Internet café, or public university. Some PCs may contain spyware designed to capture your online banking User ID and password at the time you log in. Use only a PC that you know and trust.
